Learn about the basic site requirements before installing hardwood flooring and download detailed instructions for properly preparing the subfloor and rooms.
It is mandatory that floor screeds be dry, sound, level, and even. The moisture content of the concrete slab and cement floor screed must not exceed 2–2.3% relative humidity (1.5% for underfloor heating; 0.5% for anhydrite screeds; 0.3% for underfloor heating). The indoor relative humidity must be between 40–60%.
All wet construction processes must be completed—including the installation of ceramic tiles immediately adjacent to the hardwood flooring, as well as plastering, spackling, and painting. It is possible to apply the final coat of paint to the walls after the parquet has been installed.
If central heating pipes, cables, or other similar installations are laid in the floor, the routes must be marked on the screed if anchoring to the subfloor is required. Heating pipes must be thermally insulated, and for air conditioning convectors, measures must be taken to prevent condensation.
Optimal conditions must be maintained on-site at least 48 hours prior to installing the parquet flooring, as well as throughout the entire installation process:
The delivery of the parquet should be scheduled at a time when external factors will not adversely affect the moisture content of the material itself. The parquet should not be delivered or stored under conditions that could lead to moisture absorption, excessive drying, or sudden changes in climate.
The parquet must be allowed to acclimate on site for a minimum of 2 weeks for solid wood parquet, or for a period specified in the specific manufacturer’s instructions, during which time optimal climatic conditions must be maintained.
If the subfloor is made of plywood or OSB, its moisture content must not differ by more than 4% from that of the parquet.
It is mandatory to comply with all installation conditions and recommendations provided by the manufacturer of the selected parquet.
The site must be prepared so that the subfloor is dry, sound, level, and even; all wet construction processes have been completed; and the temperature and humidity in the rooms have stabilized well before the delivery and installation of the hardwood flooring. Particular attention must be paid to the residual moisture content of the subfloor, hidden installations in the floor, heating pipes, , the potential for condensation, and the proper acclimatization of the wood.
